I am currently working on a Master's of Education focusing on Technology in Education. Seems only appropriate since I work in IT. I enjoy riding my motorcycle and basically work so I can afford it. If I could get paid to ride around the country sampling fine local cuisine, I'd have to give up my current job.

Ah, spam chat box, how I want to chat with you…

Ok, so I’ve occasionally gotten this and generally I ignore them…  This time I decided to respond.  Notice how the spam chat box responds so eloquently to my answers.

Server Consolidation

With the looming server consolidation and subsequent reorganization I’ve decided to ramble a bit and share my thoughts and concerns.
I work in an educational environment with a distributed IT model.  Seems years ago (I wasn’t here, so I’m going on hearsay here) the university had a centralized IT model and the level of service the [...]

meetings

I had a meeting today.
I know, exciting stuff, I can barely contain myself.
The highlight of this meeting was explaining to another “IT” person why a port number was important for a particular product.  After the third time telling him, I finally gave up and said “I really don’t know why it needs it.  It is [...]

It’s a web out there!

It’s a web out there.  A web of information that is.  Some of it good, some of it bad and some of it there merely for it’s own existance.  Any time I need to do something that I can’t remember exactly how to do off the top of my head (that happens so rarely, so [...]

Cleaning up

For whatever reason, there comes a time in life that a person needs to tidy up.  In this case, it happens to be a linux based web server that has miscellaneous files strewn throughout.  Some from editing with emacs/vim/vi which tend to leave backup files (those annoying files with a ~ after them or other [...]

A-Team moment

It was brilliant I tell you, absolutely brilliant!  As Hannibal from The A-Team would say “I love it when a plan comes together”.  Only it wasn’t so much a plan as it was a stumbling upon things and having that sudden flash of insight that defies any real logical reasoning.  Let me give you a [...]

Certifiable

I was trying to do some work with a web site and certificates and found this site.  Now, if you’re like me, I don’t do this sort of thing often enough to remember all the commands, so this website is a true blessing.  Another thing I picked up from another web site a while back [...]

He has a PhD in Technology

But can’t figure out how to plug in a computer.  Ok, so maybe it wasn’t that bad, but it was damn close.
We get a call from a branch location telling us their card reader isn’t working.  This is after I was there the day before and told them it wasn’t working.  Brilliant!  Anyhow, their card [...]

IPhone – day three

So, I tried out this cool little app called MotionX GPS tracker by the “The MotionX Team“.  This app lets you “track” where you’ve been, how long it took you to get there, average speed, maximum and minimum elevation, etc.  All the things you’d like to know if you wanted to take someone hiking through [...]

iphone first thoughts.

Yeah, so I’m behind the curve.  All you other uber-geeks out there have had the iphone since it first came out, waiting in line for the chance to get the “latest and greatest” apple product released to the world.
So, these are my first thoughts… after one day of usage.
1. The battery life isn’t the greatest.  [...]
